The Science Behind Aire

Aire contains four active ingredients: L-Theanine, Rhodiola Rosea, Saffron (Affron®), and L-Tyrosine. Below is what the published human research actually shows for each — including where the evidence is strong and where it is limited.†

L-Theanine

An amino acid found naturally in green tea. In human studies, L-theanine has been associated with increased alpha-wave activity in the brain — an EEG pattern linked to a state of relaxed alertness rather than drowsiness. This is the basis for describing it as calming without being sedating.†

Rhodiola Rosea

An adaptogenic herb traditionally used to help the body cope with stress. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial, a standardized rhodiola extract was associated with reduced stress-induced fatigue and improved mental performance in healthy physicians working night shifts.†

Saffron (Affron®)

Affron® is a patented, standardized extract of Crocus sativus. It is one of the more rigorously studied botanical ingredients for mood: randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials have examined its effects on mood and general wellbeing in adults, including adults experiencing low mood.†

L-Tyrosine

An amino acid the body uses as a precursor to dopamine and norepinephrine. A review of the human literature found that tyrosine supplementation tends to support cognitive performance specifically in demanding or stressful conditions — when neurotransmitter turnover is elevated — rather than producing a general effect at rest.†

What this evidence does and does not show

We think it is worth being direct about the limits here.

  • These studies tested the individual ingredients, generally as oral capsules or tablets. They did not test Aire, and they did not test this combination of ingredients together.
  • Study doses often differ from the amount delivered by a single pouch. Ingredient research should be read as the rationale for the formula, not as a claim about the finished product.
  • Aire is delivered buccally — absorbed through gum tissue — which is a different route than the oral capsules used in most of this research.
  • Aire is a dietary supplement. It is not a drug, not a nicotine replacement therapy, and not a smoking or nicotine cessation product.
